The Menakao brand, launched in 2010, crafts its chocolate in Madagascar - locally, by Madagascans - using native fine-flavour Criollo cocoa beans.Unlike many brands that export beans for overseas processing, Menakao keeps the entire journey from bean to bar close to home, supporting local communities and preserving true origin character.Madagascan cacao is celebrated for its vibrant red berry notes and beautifully balanced citrus notes making it one of the most approachable and distinctive flavour profiles.Menakao's bars have won multiple awards, including the 2012 Great Taste Award for Combava Pink Pepper and the 2013 ICA award for 63% Sea Salt and Cocoa Nibs.I still remember the thrill of receiving their first sample bars in the post - back when the bean-to-bar world was small, and discoveries like this felt electric.
